ABOUT Sugar Bottom Farm

Sugar Bottom Farm, nestled just outside the quaint town of Ovapa, West Virginia, began its journey in 2014 with just two beehives and a family of first-generation farmers. Eric Grandon, his wife Mary, and their daughter Abigail may have started with minimal farming knowledge, but their determination and passion for honey bees quickly filled the gaps. The farm was initially established as a therapeutic venture to help Eric, a disabled veteran with six tours and 20 years of service in the US Army, cope with the stressors of his deployments.

Initially part of the Veterans and Warriors to Agriculture program in West Virginia, the farm began by producing molasses. Over time, they expanded their offerings to include honey bees, produce, and eggs, diversifying their product line to enhance farm sustainability. Despite facing significant challenges, such as a devastating thousand-year flood and a destructive fire, the Grandon family's resilience never wavered.

By 2017, Sugar Bottom Farm had evolved into a full-service honey bee operation, providing bees, beekeeping equipment, and supplies. Their commitment to sustainable practices earned them the title of Conservation Farm of the Year in 2018 from the Elk Conservation District. Today, the farm is a hub of activity, known for its high-quality products and educational initiatives. They offer beekeeping training, sell equipment, and produce seven varieties of exquisite honey, including the finest Hawaiian Honey, West Virginia Honey, and Georgia Tupelo Honey. Sugar Bottom Farm proudly holds certifications as a WV Grown, Homegrown by Heroes, and Pollinator Habitat Farm, continuing to serve both their community and the environment with dedication and pride.
